
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharofiddin Ashurov is a distinguished scholar and practitioner in Islamic banking and finance, currently serving at the Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia. He holds a PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance and has developed a multidisciplinary expertise spanning Shariah governance, financial risk management, and fintech innovation. Over the course of his academic career, he has progressed from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor while assuming key leadership roles, including Head of Programme, contributing significantly to curriculum development and postgraduate supervision. He has supervised and graduated a substantial number of Master’s and PhD candidates, reflecting his strong commitment to research and academic mentorship.
In parallel with his academic responsibilities, Dr. Ashurov plays an active role in the Islamic finance industry as a member of the Shariah Committee of Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia and the Development Bank of Tajikistan. His professional engagements extend to advisory roles in Central Asia and beyond, where he has contributed to the development of Shariah-compliant financial products, governance frameworks, and institutional transformation strategies. He has also been involved in high-level due diligence and financial advisory assignments, particularly in cross-border investment and Islamic microfinance transformation initiatives.
Dr. Ashurov’s research interests focus on Islamic finance sustainability, fintech integration, and the application of Maqasid al-Shariah in modern financial systems. He has published extensively in reputable academic journals and contributes to policy discussions on Islamic finance development in emerging markets. His work bridges theory and practice, offering actionable insights for regulators, financial institutions, and policymakers. In recognition of his academic and teaching excellence, he has received several awards, including the Best Lecturer Award and national-level research recognition. Through his combined academic leadership and industry engagement, Dr. Ashurov continues to advance the development of Islamic financial ecosystems across Malaysia and Central Asia.
